On October 17th, the UPC appointed Brian Horsfield, an academician of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering, as its distinguished professor. Academician Hao Fang, the president of UPC, held a discussion with Brian Horsfield and presented him with the appointment letter for the distinguished professor position.
Hao Fang highly valued Academician Brian Horsfield’s academic achievements and expressed the hope that he would play a significant role in aspects such as talent cultivation, basic research, and the construction of scientific research platforms at UPC.
Brian Horsfield highly praised the UPC’s scientific research work and expressed that he would strengthen cooperation with UPC while fulfilling his duties as the distinguished professor.
Brian Horsfield, an internationally renowned petroleum geologist and geochemist, is a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech), Senior Scientific Advisor at the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), and a tenured professor at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany’s “Elite University” initiative. With over 300 SCI-indexed papers published in Nature and other journals, he has made numerous original and outstanding contributions to the fields of petroleum geology and organic geochemistry. He was awarded the AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) Memorial Distinguished Educator Award. Additionally, he has served as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP), President of the European Association of Organic Geochemists (EAOG), and Chief Scientist of the Europe Gas Shales Project.
