Recently, according to the announcement of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) on the winners of the 2024 SPE International Awards, Professor Sun Baojiang from the School of Petroleum Engineering won the 2024 SPE Distinguished Member Award.
Having been engaged in the research of wellbore multiphase flow theory and control technology for a long time, Dr. Sun Baojiang, professor and doctoral supervisor, has made a number of important innovations in the field of wellbore pressure control and disaster prevention and control in deepwater and deepdrilling and completion. He was awarded the second prize of National Technological Invention in 2020, the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2007, nine first prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology progress award, and the “Distinguished Engineer Award” of International Scientific Exchange Foundation of China. He has published more than 220 papers, 75 authorized invention patents, and 5 monographs in English and Chinese.
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a professional association consisting of executives, engineers, scientists, and other professionals in the global oil, gas, and other related energy industries, with 127,000 members from 145 countries. It established the Distinguished Member Award in 1983 to honor individuals for their outstanding achievements in the oil and gas industry or academia, as well as their significant contributions to SPE. In 2024, seven members have won this award, which will be presented at the SPE Annual Meeting in September.
