UPC Visits to Universities and Enterprises in the UK, France, and Germany

From July 8 to 17, Zhang Lingling, Vice Presidentof UPC, led a delegation to the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, successively visited universities and enterprises including the University of Dundee, the University of Surrey, international university town in Paris , Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd. (France) , and Constructor University. During the visit, the delegation also called on the Chinese Embassy in the UK and attended an alumni gathering and young scholars exchange meeting at RWTH Aachen University. The focus of the visits was to initiate dialogues and cooperationson key areas such as advancing green and digital campus, fostering technological innovation and talent cultivation, and enhancing cultural exchanges. Representatives from the Office of Infrastructure Construction, the Office of Information Technology Construction, and the Office of International Affairs accompanied the delegation.

The delegation visits the University of Dundee

During the visit to the University of Dundee, the delegationd iscussed with Jason Norris, Director of Global Partnerships, and Susan Levy, Associate Dean of School of Humanities, Social Science and Law. They talked in depth about 3+1, 4+1, and 1+1 Joint Education programs in“Energy + Law”and explored options for Sino-foreign cooperative education. They also exchanged ideas with Rose Jenkins, Director of Campus Planning and Services, and Natalie Lafferty, Director of the Center for Learning Technology and Innovation. The conversations focused on practical aspects of campus planning and construction, as well as digital and intelligent services aimed at benefiting students and faculty.

The delegation visitsthe University of Surrey

During the visit tothe University of Surrey, President Lu Gaoqing and Associate Vice President Xiong Yu warmly greeted the delegation. Building on the solid foundation of collaboration in the “International Joint Laboratory of Energy Catalytic Materials,” both universities discussed new initiatives during the meeting, proposing to enhance ties through short-term exchanges of students and faculty, and jointly hosting international conferences. The delegation invited President LuGaoqing to grace the upcoming 16th Global Chinese Chemical Engineers Symposium, held at UPC. With a shared vision, the delegation expressed hopes for deepening collaborations across respective strengths, fostering a mutually beneficial future for both universities.

The delegation visits the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in the UK

During their visit to the UK, Zhang Lingling and her delegation met with Minister Counsellor Zhang Jin at the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy. Zhang Lingling introduced UPC’saccomplishments in international cooperation and talent cultivation, emphasizing its commitment to internationalization and aspirations for deepening ties with British institutions. In response, Zhang Jin offered insights on fostering high-level talent and transforming research outcomes in partnership with UK universities. He pledged to facilitate and support UPC to build upon existing fruitful collaborations, fostering even more practical and impactful partnerships with British educational institutions.

The delegation visits International University Town in Paris

At the international university town in Paris, Huang Jikun, General Manager of Capital City Development Sino-French Company and Chairman of China House Development Association, met with the delegation. He introduced the basic situation of the international university town in Paris and the project background, overall construction situation and management and operation mode of “He Yuan”, the Chinese Pavilion, which serves as a cultural and academic bridge between China and the international academic community, and led the delegation to make a site visit to the functional areas such as student dormitory, meeting area, lounge, etc., and made a detailed explanation on the design conception, functional layout, building materials, etc., which could be useful in the construction of the new campus of UPC.

The delegation visits Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd. (France)

At Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd. (France), the delegation met with Gao Jie, Director of the Board of Directors of Huawei (France). Mr. Gao expressed a warm welcome to the delegation, introduced the 20-year development history of Huawei (France) and its vision for the next step, and said that Huawei, as a company closely linked with energy, actively promotes the strategy of sustainable development. Zhang Lingling introduced the basic situation of UPC and expressed her expectation for cooperation in overseas internship bases to provide students with more diversified international exchange opportunities.

The delegation holds symposium with RWTH Aachen University Alumni

At RWTH Aachen University, the delegation participated in the Meeting of Aachen Overseas Alumni and Young Scholars, exchanged views with more than 30 alumni, shared the development of the university in recent years and the initiatives in the continuous promotion of the implementation of the global strategy, enhancement of internationalization, and increasing the introduction of high-level overseas talents. Zhang Lingling expressed the hope that the alumni will continue to play the role of a link and their own advantages, and contribute to the construction and development of their alma mater. The alumni spoke enthusiastically and offered suggestions on further strengthening the close ties between the university and the alumni and extensively gathering the alumni’s strength.

The delegation visits Constructor University

Thomas Auf der Heyde, Vice President for International Affairs and Coskun Ince, Vice President for Operations of Constructor Universitymet with the delegation at Constructor University. Both sides introduced the history of each university, advantageous disciplines and international cooperation, and reviewed the cooperation between the two universities. Thomas said, it is recommended to start from the 3+1, 4+1 dual-degree program and the summer school, to build a bridge for the exchange of faculty and students, and then to promote the in-depth cooperation between the two universities in the construction of academic disciplines and scientific and technological innovation. Zhang Lingling said that she expected both sides to reach a further consensus through communication, and to promote more in-depth, broad and stable development of cooperation. After the meeting, the delegation visited the alumni in Constructor Universityand the laboratory of basic disciplines and campus network room.
