Wang Yong and His Delegation Visit Australia and Singapore

Recently, Wang Yong, president of UPC, led a delegation to Australia and Singapore, successively visited institutions including the University of New South Wales, the University of Queensland, the Chinese Consulate-General in Brisbane, Nanyang Technological University, and the National University of Singapore. They dicussed cooperation in joint talent cultivation, faculty exchanges, joint scientific research, and other collaborative endeavors, thereby deepening the cooperation and exchanges between UPC and prestigious universities in both Australia and Singapore. Wang Yong and his delegation also attended the UPC Overseas Young Scholars Exchange Meetings in Sydney, Brisbane, and Singapore respectively.

During the visit to the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia, the two sides discussed the potential areas and matters of cooperation under the framework of MOU between the two universities, focusing on the joint training program of undergraduates, postgraduates and the integrated undergraduate-graduate student. After the meeting, Wang Yong and his delegation visited the key laboratories, such as micro-CT, rock mechanics and the public analysis and testing platforms in the Faculty of Engineering of the university, and had an in-depth exchange with Rose Amal, an Australian academician and a visiting professor of UPC, on the construction of the laboratories.

During the visit to the university of Queensland in Australia, the two sides introduced the fundamental profiles to each other. They reviewed the close cooperation and achievements in talent cultivation and faculty exchanges and signed inter-university student exchange program agreement.

During the stay in the Chinese Consulate General in Brisbane, Ruan Zongze warmly greeted Wang Yong and his delegation. He introduced recent development of higher education and scientific research in Australia, and outlined both the prospects and challenges for Sino-Australian cooperation in this sector. He offered guidance and suggestions on expanding exchanges and collaboration with Australian institutions, fostering joint talent cultivation, and enhancing scientific and technological partnerships. He also pledged the Consulate’s unwavering support in advancing China-Australia educational exchanges and cooperation endeavors.

At Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, both sides introduced the talent cultivation and faculty exchanges between the two universities. They also engaged in detailed dialogues on joint student training and scientific research cooperationin disciplines such as materials science, mechanics, chemistry, and biology. Following the discussions, the delegation visited the teaching and research laboratories of relevant departments.

At the National University of Singapore, Wang Yong presented recent developments of UPC in academic structure, scientific research, and talent cultivation. He expressed an eagerness to strengthen inter-university cooperation in joint student cultivation, faculty exchanges, and scientific research. Following the discussions, the delegation visited the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, the Additive Manufacturing Center, and the laboratories of Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology.

Overseas Young Scholars Exchange Meeting (in Singapore)

During visits to Australia and Singapore, UPC successfully organized three Overseas Young Scholars Exchange Meetings in Sydney, Brisbane, and Singapore, attracting over 150 outstanding young scholars from both domestic and international backgrounds for face-to-face exchanges. Wang Yong provided an overview of UPC’s history, academic structure, scientific research, and mainrecent advancements. The Personnel Department highlighted the university’s talent requirements and recruitment policies. The delegation addressed the concerns of young scholars regarding their potential return to China for career development, inviting them to work at UPC after returning to China.
