Recently, International Scientific Exchange Foundation of China released the list of Outstanding Engineer Awards. UPC Alumni, Sun Huanquan and Li Guoxin, were on the list.
Graduated from Oil Production Engineering of UPC in 1987, Sun Huanquan is now the Assistant Chief Engineer of China Petro-Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) and the director of oilfield exploration and development department. His project entitled “Key Technologies and Applications for Efficient Development of Ultra-heavy Oil in Thin Reservoirs” won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2019. In May 2011, he won the “National Labor Medal”, and was awarded the title of “Alumni Star” in September.
Li Guoxin, an adjunct professor of UPC, graduated from Field Geophysics in 1995. He is now the deputy general manager of Company of Exploration and Production attached to China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and also the deputy director of the key exploration areas in Junggar basin of CNPC. As a well-known expert in the field of exploration, drilling and logging of oil and gas, he has made outstanding contributions, such as the geological theory research, key technology research and exploration breakthrough in ancient marine facies carbonate, deep clastic rocks, complex volcanic rocks and unconventional oil and gas reservoirs. As the leading person, his project entitled “Exploration Theory and Technology of Conglomeratic Reservoir in Depression Area and Discovery of Mahu Super-large Oilfield” won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2018.
Besides, our university alumni were also on the list in the previous three selections of Outstanding Engineer Award. For example, Sun Lili of Grade 1979 from Oil-refinery Engineering, Song Guoqi of Grade 1978 from Geophysical Prospecting and Lin Min of Grade 1978 from Oil-refinery Engineering respectively won the first, second and third prize of Outstanding Engineer Award.
Outstanding Engineer Award is a major award initiated by International Scientific Exchange Foundation of China under the joint proposal of 52 academicians including Shi Changxu. Its purpose is to vigorously promote Chinese engineers’ spirit- “responsibility, innovation and collaboration”, and to reward engineering and technical personnel who have made outstanding contributions to the national production and construction. It is the most authoritative engineering and technical personnel award which is selected every two years and covers the most extensive fields. A total of 70 winners have been selected this time, including 40 winners of Outstanding Engineer Award and 30 winners of Outstanding Young Engineer Award.
