Prof. Yao Jun Awarded The InterPore Lifetime Achievement Medal

Recently, the International Society for Porous Media (InterPore) announced that Professor Yao Jun from the School of Petroleum Engineering of China University of Petroleum (East China) has been awarded the InterPore Lifetime Achievement Medal. This medal is to recognize his outstanding and lasting contributions to the field of porous media science and technology. He is the 17th international top scholar in the field to be awarded this medal by InterPore since its establishment. Professor Yao Jun has also become the first Chinese scholar to receive this honor.

Prof. Yao Jun serves as the founding director of the Research Center of Multiphase Flow in Porous Media of UPC. His research mainly focuses on multiphase flow in porous media (Mechanics of Fluids in Porous Media) and its applications in oil and gas field development engineering. He has established a multi-scale, multi-modal and multi-field coupling theory of oil and gas seepage, which spans from microscopic mechanisms to macroscopic phenomenology. He has revealed the mechanisms and laws of microflow, laying a theoretical foundation for multi-scale correlations. Moreover, he has successfully addressed the challenges of the coupling between fracture flow and seepage flow, as well as the coupling between free flow in large-scale fractured-vuggy features and seepage flow. Eventually, he has developed a large-scale and highly efficient parallel numerical simulation method and corresponding software for complex oil and gas reservoirs. Professor Yao has been honored with the highest accolades in the international petroleum engineering field, including the Honorary Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He has also received the top award in the international realm of Mechanics of Fluids in Porous Media, that is, the InterPore Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, he has also been awarded the Distinguished Member of the SPE and the Meritorious Service Award of the IntePore. His works have been cited over 20,000 times on Google, with an H-index of 70. He has been selected as a Highly Cited Researcher globally by Clarivate Analytics, a Highly Cited Chinese Researcher by Elsevier, and ranked among the top 2% of scientists globally.

The International Society for Porous Media was founded in 2008, with members from academia and industry all over the world. The research on scientific and engineering issues related to porous media encompasses intricate issues spanning multiple disciplines and fields. Such phenomena are ubiquitously found in natural and industrial systems, including soil, groundwater, underground oil and gas reservoirs, tissues and organs of human beings and animals, plants, composite materials, fuel cells, concrete, ceramics, textiles, as well as computer and mobile phone chips. The InterPore is committed to providing a communication platform for researchers in various fields to share research insights on complex porous media, and to promoting the dissemination of cutting-edge knowledge in the science and engineering of porous media.
