Recently, five new undergraduate majors of China University of Petroleum were officially approved by Ministry of Education. They are new energy science and engineering, new energy materials and devices, intelligent manufacturing engineering, intelligent science and technology, data science and big data technology. So far, the total number of undergraduate majors of UPC has reached to 68.

The major of new energy science and engineering focuses on cultivating inter-disciplinary talents who are engaged in the study and research of engineering design, optimization operation and production management of the areas of wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy and biomass energy.

The major of new energy material and devices is designed for training high-quality talents who systematically master the principle of energy conversion and utilize the methods of theory, new energy equipment and system operation technology. They will be qualified for the research, design, management in new energy sectors, such as solar energy, electrochemistry energy storage, hydrogen and other industries.

The major of intelligent manufacturing engineering is to adapt for the trend of intelligent manufacturing engineering development and also for the need of national strategic development. It mainly put emphasis on the skills of design and manufacturing, technology research, operation management and system planning and implementation

The major of intelligent science and technology aims to cultivate high-quality interdisciplinary talents who can work on the scientific research and product development of intelligent technologies in crossing fields, such as information technology, hydrocarbon and ocean etc.

The major of data science and big data technology aims to cultivate high-quality talents who will learn computer theory and big data processing technology, and are capable of applying and analyzing application technology and conducting the research, development and application of big data.

In recent years, to adapt to new circumstances, the university has adjusted the division of disciplines, by reinforcing the traditional subjects and developing new subjects like new enegry and new materials. The establishment of new maojors will contribute to optimizing the distribution of disciplines and upgrading the social service ability of the university.
