Prof. Yao Jun Receives Medal of InterPore

Recently, Professor Yao Jun from School of Petroleum Engineering of UPC, was awarded an InterPore medal by International Society for Porous Media (InterPore) in  recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of China and international porous media technology and academic exchanges. And he has been the fourth scholar in the world awarded the medal by InterPore since its establishment, also the first scholar in China to receive the honor.

Professor Yao Jun, as the key personnel in charge of the seepage mechanics professional group of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from 2010 to 2020, has made outstanding contributions to the internationalization of seepage mechanics in China, widely spread the development and achievements of seepage mechanics in China to the international community, and promoted the rapid development of seepage mechanics in China. In 2017, he organized and established China InterPore Chapter, and served as the chairman for six consecutive years, organized six China InterPore Chapter Conferences, and helped UPC to become the first institutional member of InterPore in Asia. He co-organized the first InterPore online conference for the first time in 2020, and gained the right to host the InterPore Annual Conference for UPC in 2024, which will be held in Qingdao in mid-May, marking the first time that InterPore’s annual conference will be held in a country outside of Europe and the United States. Thanks to Professor Yao Jun’s hard work and selfless dedication over the years, InterPore has been widely promoted in China and its influence is expanding increasingly.

Professor Yao Jun is currently the director of the Research Centerof Multiphase Flow in Porous Media, honorary member of SPE, the first member of the China Petroleum Society, and has been consecutively selected as the Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate Analytics. He has been deeply engaged in the research and teaching of multi-phase flow in porous media, proposed the theoretical framework of modern seepage mechanics, developed multi-scale and multi-field oil and gas seepage mechanics, and facilitated the theoretical development and engineering application of seepage mechanics. He not only has important academic influence and outstanding achievements in international oil and gas seepage, but also has made outstanding contributions to international academic exchanges and service promotion.
