UPC Enhanced Cooperation with BEG of UT-Austin

On December 7, professor Mark Shuster,the executive Deputy Director of the Bureau of Economic Geology of the University of Texas at Austin, and Mr. Jay Kipper, led a delegation to visit UPC. The president of UPC, Academician Hao Fang met with the guests, and the two sides held talks and exchanged ideas on scientific research cooperation and the construction of joint laboratory for international cooperation in petroleum energy.

Hao Fang welcomed the guests, and introduced the disciplinary development, talent cultivation, scientific research cooperation, high-end platform building, Guzhenkou campus construction and other performance of UPC. He also showed that UPC and UT-Austin have a profound history and a broad foundation of cooperation, and hoped to take the visit as an opportunity to deepen the cooperative partnership, further strengthen the cooperation in high-level scientific research, joint declaration of fund projects, high-level talent exchange and the construction of global lacustrine sedimentation research alliance, and enhance the international educational performance and influence of both sides.

Mark Shuster and Mr. Jay Kipper highly recognized the development achievements of UPC in recent years, and introduced BEG of UT-Austin and its Applied Geodynamics Laboratory, Reservoir Characteristics Research Laboratory, Integrated Seismic Research Center and their research progress on geothermal energy. They also expressed enthusiastic willingness to deepen cooperation with our university and contribute to China-US educational and scientific research cooperation and exchanges.

Office of International Affairs and School of Geosciences of UPC introduced our international cooperations and the construction of the Key Laboratory of Deep Oil and Gas. And the two sides exchanged in-depth views on common concerns such as the construction of the joint laboratory for international cooperation in petroleum energy and scientific research cooperation, and reached cooperation intentions.

After the discussion, the delegation visited the Key Laboratory of Deep Oil and Gas and gave academic lectures on shale oil storage, seismic sedimentology and machine learning for teachers and students.
