UPC Delegation Visited Four Partner Universities in the UK

Recently, a delegation composed of representatives from UPC International Office, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and College of New Energy conducted visits to four leading UK institutions: Cardiff University, University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and University of Birmingham, aiming to deepen collaborations in talent cultivation, faculty and student exchanges, and joint research initiatives.

At Cardiff University, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on collaboration in professional fields such as electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical&electrical engineering and economics&management. They outlined implementation of foreign expert exchanges, research collaboration, student mobility programs, and joint training project development, with particular focus on exploring the feasibility of establishing a Chinese-foreign cooperative educational institution. Following the discussions, the delegation visited the academic facilities including student learning spaces, practical training workshops,the Robotics and Autonomous Intelligent Machines (RAIM), Ammonia Energy Laboratory, and the Catalysis & Zero Emissions Laboratory at the Translational Research Hub (TRH). The itinerary also included an alumni engagement session with alumni.

The Delegation Engaged in Academic Exchange with the University of Manchester

At the University of Manchester, both sides reaffirmed their commitments to consolidate existing programs while expanding academic partnerships to new disciplines. Strategic priorities included faculty research exchanges, joint application for research grants, joint publications, and joint laboratory. They also discussed the potential participation in China’s Sino-foreign cooperative education programs. During the visit, the delegation met with the alumni.

The Delegation Held Discussions with Manchester Metropolitan University

The Delegation visited Manchester Metropolitan University laboratories

At Manchester Metropolitan University, both sides reviewed the basis of their cooperation and held in-depth discussions on the critical implementation steps of the dual bachelor’s and master’s program. During the visit, the delegation also visited the Fuel Cell Innovation Centre, the Surface Engineering Laboratory, and student classrooms in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

The Delegation exchanges with Academician Ding Yulong’s team at the University of Birmingham

At the University of Birmingham, the delegation toured the university’s museum and laboratories at the School of Chemical Engineering, and held discussions with Academician Ding Yulong at the Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre. Academician Ding commended UPC’s achievements in energy and chemical engineering fields, expressing willingness to actively promote bilateral collaborations in education and research. Both sides agreed to expedite the signing of a cooperation agreement, with concrete measures to enable faculty exchanges and PhD student mobility programs.
