Recently, new findings on the research of oxidation dehydrogenation of propane to propylene (ODHP) were made by doctoral student CAO Lei, , associate Prof. DAI Pengcheng and Prof. ZHAO Xuebo from College of New Energy. The paper titled “Spherical Superstructure of Boron Nitride Nanosheets Derived from Boron-Containing Metal-Organic Frameworks” has been published inJournal of the American Chemical Society, one of the top journals in chemistry.
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is the best catalyst for the ODHP reaction up to now, but the singe-pass yield of propylene is still far away from theindustrial demand.Constructing 3D superstructure based on 2D h-BN nanosheets is an efficient approach for increasing the content of the active sites and improving the catalytic performance. However, itis still challenging to assemble 2Dh-BN nanosheets intothe 3Dsuperstructure. To address this issue, Lei Cao, Pengcheng Dai, and Xuebo Zhao prepared a new boron-containing metal-organic framework (SS-MOFNSs), and utilized it as template to prepare spherical superstructure of boron nitride nanosheets (SS-BNNSs). The achieved SS-BNNSs exhibited excellent catalytic performance in the ODHP reaction. The yield of olefins reached at 40% at 510 °C, which exceeded that of the commercial h-BN nanosheets and porous h-BN fibers. The experimental results revealed that SS-BNNSs contained massive of B-OH active sites on the edge. The uniform dispersion of the active sites and the unique spherical superstructure benefit the yield of olefins.
The hydrogen energy group, led by Prof. Zhao, focuses on the bottleneck problem of new energy based on the major national strategic needs.Hydrogen energy group has obtained a series achievement in hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen fuel cells, catalytic hydrogenation and dehydrogenation, et al. The group undertakes several the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Key Research and Development Plan of Shandong Province, et. al. More than forty research results have been published in international journals. In addition to the basic researches, the hydrogen energy group focuses on serving Shandong province and promoting thenew and old kinetic energy conversionof Shandong province. Besides, the group actively participates in the cooperation of YanKuang Group and China University of Petroleum (East China) and undertakes key school-enterprise cooperation projects of about 3.5 million (the preparation of B, N co-doped carbon papers and research on IMOF hydrogen purification technology, et al).
