On May 7, 2019, the groundbreaking ceremony of Guzhenkou Science and Education Park was held in Guzhenkou Civil-Military Integration Demonstration District. Leaders of Qingdao West-coast New Area，Yankuang Group and China University of Petroleum attended the ceremony.
ZHANG Lingling, the vice-president of UPC and chief director of of Guzhenko Park Construction Headquarter, introduced the background of the project and the ongoing work. She said, the university will put into more resources and gather more supports to ensure the completion of the program. As planned, it will play a bigger role in Shandong project of replacing old growth drivers with new ones and the local development.
LI Wei, the general manager of Yankuang Group, said the ceremony marked that the cooperation with China University of Petroleum and the local will be closer, high-leved and wide-ranged. Based on its advantages on industry, resources and capital, Yankuang Group is looking forward more sincere cooperation with the university in different ways. UPC-YANKUANG New Energy College will be co-constructed and built into a world-class and comprehensive college.
HAO Fang, the president of UPC introduced the significance of the park. The project will provide intellectual and technological support for the provincial project of replacing old growth drivers with new ones and improve the ability of serving the local economy. As he pointed out, the park is a symbol of a new beginning for cooperation between the university and the local; it is also a model of cooperation between university and enterprise. He also stressed that, the university will assume the responsbility and gather all power and resources to support the project. He hoped that the park will be built into an new platform for research, cooperation and integration.
Guzhenkou Science and Education Park is located in Guzhenkou Civil-military Integration Model District of Qingdao West-coast New Area, with a coverage of 234.6 mu. With a gross investment of 1.5 billions, it will be built into an base for new energy, new material and marine science. A system of interdisciplinary integration and industry-study-research collaboration will be set up. It can accommodate 500 teachers and 2000 graduate students. In the first-stage of the project, Yankuang New Energy Building, the National Engineering Laboratory Building，a cultural center and student apartments will be constructed; in the second stage, marine science and engineering laboratory building, deepwater oil and gas laboratory building, comprehensive teaching building and expert apartment will be built.
