1. Three professors selected as Elsevier Most Cited Chinese researchers.
On January 26, Elsevier released the list of 2015 Most Cited Chinese Researchers. The list covered 1744 Chinese scholars of high international influence. Three professors of UPC were on the list, Jiang Daqing (professor, Mathematics, School of Science), Sun Daofeng (professor, Physics and Astronomy, School of Science), Dang Hongyue (professor, Immunology and Microbiology, School of Chemical Engineering).
2. Prof. Tang Xiaoming got awarded for Distinguished Technical Achievement by SPWLA.
SPWLA 57th Annual Symposium was held in Reykjavík, Iceland. Prof. Tang Xiaoming, from School of Geoscience, participated the symposium and recieved the award of Distinguished Technical Achievement.
Prof. Tang has concentrated his research on well log analysis for over thirty years. He pioneered LWD shear measurement. In the advent of LWD development, the industry needed a proper technology to measure formation shear velocity in LWD and the dipole, as used in wireline logging, was taken for granted to do the measurement. Through theoretical analyses and field tests, Dr. Tang, together with his team, revealed that quadrupole, instead of dipole, is a better technology. This work laid the foundation for today’s LWD quadruple shear technology and won the 2002 SPWLA symposium best paper award.
3. The 13th Five-year Planning of China University of Petroleum was implemented.
On July 7, the 13th Five-year Planning of China University of Petroleum was examined and adopted. The planning has given a general and clear blueprint in the following five years, definiting the aims that the university would reach in teaching qulity, scientifc research, social service and international cooperation. According to the planning, the univeristy will be comitted to developing into a high-level research university, with petroleum science becoming the global top discipline.
4. Findings on Nonocrystalline Self-assembly by Prof. Zhang Jun's Group was reported by Nano Letters.
Recently, prof. Zhang Jun's group from the National Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil made new findings on Nonocrystalline Self-assembly. The paper Entropy-Driven Assembly Pt3Co Nanocubes and Heating-Mediated Anisotropic Variation of Superlattice and Electrical Conductivity got released by Nano Letters.
In 2016, a great number of achievements has been made on scientifc research, and reported by international key journals, such as Nanoscale, ACS Applied Materials&Interfaces, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics,Nature Communications, Advanced Functional Materials, Energy and Environment Science.
5. CCTV: producing students with global awareness, supporting the national strategy of The Belt and Road.
On Dec. 29, 2016, CCTV reported the work that UPC has done on serving national development under the context of The Belt and Road, the national strategy that was to strengthen the partnership with countries on 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. Up to today, there are 1150 international students studying in China University of Petroleum, among which 300 students come from the countries along the Silk Road. In recent years, the university has provided training classes for personnel in those countries. Besides, it has co-estableshed the Confucius Institute with the Metallurgy and Mines Institute of Tajikistan, which has greatly promoted friendship and culture exchanges between the two peoples.
6. UPC students around the world
With the coming of 2016 new year, UPC alumni at home and abroad expressed best wishes to the university by senting photos online, hoping that the university will make bigger progress in the new year.
7. Graduation: A Special Gift for yourself
Every year, June is the graduation season for college students. Students will celebrate their graduation in different ways. Gong Xiangyang, a graduate from Department of Physical Education challenged himself by long running. 190km, twenty three hours, with the support and encouragement of his friends and classmates, he made it finally，giving himself a special gift for his four-year college life.
8. Wishes for graduates from President Shan Honghong
On graduation ceremony held in June 27-29, president Shan Honghong awarded degrees for over six thousand students. As the ceremony was important and sacred for students, she treated it seriously and gave her best wishes for every student.
9. Volunteering education in rural area
During summer holiday, UPC students will participate in different practical and social activities. Some students will give classes as a volunteer teacher in rural area, which offer them more experience about the rural life and raise their social awareness.
10. The Third Petroleum Equipment Design Contest for Chinese Postgraduates was held in UPC.
On Oct. 22 to 23, the Third Petroleum Equipment Design Contest for Chinese Postgraduates was held in UPC. 242 design works from 55 universities were presented and displayed. Students shared their works and ideas about petroleum equipment design.
