UPC Deepens partnerships with Taiwan Universities

From October 12 to 16, 2014, Shan Honghong, the president of UPC, led a delegation to Da Yeh University in Taiwan to participate " 2014 Cross-Strait University President Symposium & Conference on Science and Technology ". The delegation also visited Chinese Culture University, Fu Jen Catholic University and Tatung University, and conducted communications and negotiations with them.

President Shan Honghong made a report on the topic of curriculum construction.

       Held by Da Yeh University and co-organized by more than 20 colleges and universities in Taiwan such as National Taiwan Normal University, National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology, Daren University of Technology and Tatung University, the symposium invited over 150 principals, experts and scholars from nearly fifty universities and officers from education sectors across the strait. Centered on issues of "how to improve faculty, curriculum and teaching of higher education institutions", "how to simplify administrative procedures of cross-strait educational exchanges", "how to construct strategies to cope with the impact of declining birthrate ", attendees exchanged ideas on the problems in  the process of communications between cross-strait universities, such as curriculum design, students enrollment and supporting policies and also proposed series of new ideas and measures.

 On behalf of the university , President Shan Honghong signed cooperation agreements with Chinese Culture University.

     During the science and technology conference, experts and scholars carried on deep discussions around four topics, that is, biotechnology, information technology, engineering science and social science.

     The first Cross-Strait University President Symposium & Conference on Science and Technology was initiated by UPC in 2002. In the following 12 years, it was held in turn by universities across the strait. Through the academic platform, universities on both sides not only promoted academic cooperation, but also promoted stuff and student exchanges, which enhanced understanding and friendship between the two sides. In 2015, the symposium will be hosted by Ludong University in the mainland.
