From October 27th to 29th, the 2014 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition (ATCE) sponsored by the Global SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) was held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. More than 12,000 petroleum engineers, young scholars and petroleum companies from America, China, Great Britain, France, Australia, Netherlands, Norway, Brazil, Mexico, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia attended the conference.
The “Petrobowl” Petroleum Knowledge Competition was held on October 27th. This year, the competition attracted 36 teams, including Stanford University, University of Texas at Austin to Texas A&M University. On behalf of UPC, the team consisting five students from School of Petroleum Engineering, Li Menglai, Yang Gang, Song Wenhui, Ma Bo, Zhang Wei, attended the competition, which was one of three teams in the Asian- Pacific region and the only team from China. After the fierce competition, the top four teams were from University of Tulsa, University of Oklahoma, Colorado School of Mines, and University of Pennsylvania.
"Petrobowl" is an international petroleum engineering knowledge contest. It was mainly related to relative contents of many industries such as petroleum engineering, petroleum geology, oil industry history and current oil events. Up to now, it has been held for thirteen times. The contest provides a platform for mutual communication and exchanges between global SPE students . It is very important for cultivating high-quality oil talents, promoting international exchanges and improving professional quality of young oil talents. Thus, it is hailed as the Olympiad in the oil industry. The fourteenth PetroBowl will be held in Houston, America.
