On June 26, the delegation from Colorado School of Mines, led by Wendy zhou, the dean of graduate studies, visited China University of Petroleum. YAO Jun, the vice-president of the university, welcomed the guests and held discussion with them about the mutual cooperation.
On behalf of the university, YAO Jun introduced the history and characteristics of the school. As he said, a number of disciplines have reached the top ten on the national ranking. In the Alma Mater Index 2017 of Times Higher Education (which ranked universities according to how many qualifications they have awarded to chief executives of companies that feature in Fortune magazine’s Fortune Global 500), China University of Petroleum ranked 35 of the global and 6 of Chinese mainland universities. Up to now, the university has built five bases by the 111 plan (Program of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities, initiated in 2006 by the Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs to establish innovation centers) and established partnerships with 143 universities and institutes around the world. He hoped that the two sides would conduct more substantive cooperation on student programs, research projects and faculty exchanges.
Wendy zhou first expressed high appreciation of the achievements on discipline construction and student cultivation which have been made by UPC. She then gave an introduction of Colorado School of Mines and its advantages on resources exploitation and utilization. As she explained, the purpose of the visiting was to sign the Memorandum ofUnderstanding and reach agreements on the student programs based on CSC funds.
